Dormancy, not death, is the hallmark of fall. So rejoice in the balance of nature where every finale serves as an overture for a new beginning.
I was in a sudden state of sadness as I was texting my Atenean friend that his school was leading 69-64 in the last seconds of the play-off game last Sunday. The excitement I had all throughout was slowly vanishing. Even when the yellow jackets were trying hard to keep up with the energy of the other school, the Espana-based crowd just won’t be moved. It seemed as though we were all one in thought that in just a matter of seconds, season 70 will end for the UST Growling Tigers in a heart-breaking loss against last year’s championship rival – ATENEO.
It was a good game though. It was meant for whoever was hungrier for another shot at the championship. Sad to see Coach Pido cry for what happened, he is still after all among the three rookie coaches in UAAP to have won a title. He placed his heart out there, fully believing in what his talented players can bring to the team – putting his faith on an unlucky Mirza that fateful day and rising up to the challenge until that last tick before the buzzer. Hats off to you coach, to the team, and to the whole Thomasian community!
The heart of the tiger shall not falter.
Season 71, here we come!
