It was another heart-breaking loss, a could-have-been, a nearly there, an almost. It’s the perfect icing to my just-about-ending crap week. Why does it always have to be a point or two short from the win? Why are they even capable of creating a 16 point margin but then end up losing it? Why do they keep firing up expectations but always, always come up short?

The UST Growling Tigers just threw that big opportunity to join the Final Four in their game against the De La Salle Green Archers in the 70th season of the UAAP. It was a nice game but it could have been the best game have they won it. They always say that the team, in terms of height and ability, is so capable of defeating any other UAAP squad but that remains far from being proven. It’s a shame that the no. 1 and 3 spots for the race to the MVP award belongs to UST when they cannot even salvage a game, more so their title.

I’m so disappointed but I’m not going to put anyone on the blame list – just myself who, amidst all the faith-faltering losses, still believe that they can do it.

Last weekend was crazy but the good kindJ.

Tet Defensor

First, our Media, Government and Society class under Former Dean Ellen Paglinauan, was able to get hold of Tet Defensor (former GMA-7 PR officer, but now working for Agatep Associates Inc.) for a mini-seminar about the clean and dirty faces of Public Relations. It was a very honest and informative take on PR and I really admired Ms. Defensor for sharing her expertise with us, accommodating all our questions and being so honest about the dirt that comes with the job. I would really love to work with/ for her but maybe not now, I still have a lot to work on – a stronger stomach specificallyJ.

LIFEHOUSE – Philippine Tour

Lifehouse @ AranetaI went straight to Araneta right after my last subject for the Lifehouse concert and boy was it hard to get there at around 6pm. You have to practically roam around the vicinity to find a decent parking but thanks to Kai for the “shopwise” tip.

Since I’m not really a super fan of the band, I couldn’t say more except that Lifehouse was great live and as usual, I had a nice time with my concert buddy Kai along with Kuya Jun (not Atom, hehe) and Divine. I realized that I’m actually not lucky with concerts because just like with the Maroon 5, the band did not sing the only song I’ve been wishing they’d do – Everything. But that’s ok because really, they did well rocking the house down though the audience, as according to Kai, was kind of dry as compared to the M5 crowd.

THE DARK KNIGHT

Finally, I got to watch The Dark Knight. I know there have been so many good words written and spoken about the movie and I have nothing more to add but another round of praises for it.

It was dark and philosophical for me but magnificently and realistically portrayed by the actors. I’ve been saying prior to its screening that maybe all the hype given to the movie was to be credited to the death of Heath Ledger but when I’ve “experienced” it, I felt otherwise. If Ledger was still with us, the celebration for the success of his portrayal of The Joker could have been even bigger than it already is. But that’s not to take away the light from the main man Christian Bale, he was just superb, dark but realistic, he kept me wanting more of Batman. He was a pained child turned superhero who used all his hurts and anger to fight crime, this version could have been just another movie from the comics but Christopher Nolan and Bale sure know how to heat up Batman. I really prefer him over the other red super characters who sometimes cross the thin line between heroism and cheesiness (sorry Marvel loversJ) and this movie truly gave justice to the uniqueness of Batman’s persona. I would have loved to repeat it right after but another two and a half hours at the mall on a Sunday would just be too much for me.

“Because he’s the hero that Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now… and so we’ll hunt him… because he can take it… because he’s not a hero… he’s a silent guardian, a watchful protector… a Dark Knight…” – Commissioner Gordon

UST still alive and kicking

By some breath of divinity, the tigers managed to fly higher than the soaring falcons (ironic I know :D ). It was so frustrating to see them almost lose the game due to unnecessary and mindless errors. Since I’ve seen this batch play, I knew instantly that it’s the kind who gets panicky during the last minutes of a game. The game versus the Adamson Falcons was a testament to that, I’m not underestimating the other team but I based my observations on the previous standings of the two in comparison and on the fact that UST was ahead minutes before the end of regulation (defensive:D).

The three losses of the team were all by close deficits. The kind that you cry over because those could have been wins instead. The hope is still there for them though and I’ll add some prayers to it that they’ll play well on their upcoming games.

By the way, I’ve read some forums about Mac Baracael’s (star player of the Far Eastern University) unfortunate accident and I am with the entire FEU community in praying that the man who shot him would soon be found and punished. But I hope some people would stop talking about who’s to be blamed for the incident because not even the police hold any strong information against anyone yet and pinpointing other schools, UST in particular, would not help since we are not even sure if it was UAAP-related.

Let’s just all hope that the guy gets better and be given another shot at basketball in the future.

It’s been a while now since I’ve actually posted something in here. My hands have been really full with the crazy back-to-school weeks, and the issues, the issues that I have exhaustingly faced these past days have been too much. I’m just glad that everything’s well now. Really, I’m hoping that this break would be long enough for me to breathe.

I am not going to talk about all those anymore, they’re over and I’m moving on.

-♥-

UAAP basketball season is on again (opening on July 5, 2008)! I’m sure that this will be another exciting series of basketball games and school wars, although the “wars” should be kept in a healthy mannerJ. I’d love to see how DLSU will be able to grab a back-to-back stunt now that Tang and Villanueva are out of the roster. And of course, I’m still hoping that the Tigers will do better this time.

-♥-

I’m also looking forward to seeing Broadway Asia Entertainment’s Cinderella with Lea Salonga as lead. It would be so interesting to watch her play a younger role, a princess with a prince charming at that. This would be a date with my mom as I’ve promised her the play ever since it was announced. It would be a breath of really fresh air from all the busyness and I’m just so excited.

There are only 173 days left before Christmas! Yey! I’m not pressuring you into your shopping or anything… I just want you all to get excited like meJ! It’s really true that days come and go fast and with another blink of an eye you would see that another start of the year is just right around the corner so let’s treasure the days and the time we have because they’re never coming back.

Love the people you love more, hug them everyday if you can, apologize for the things you do that hurt them, and no matter how cheesy it is tell them – let them know how much you cherish the days you spend together.

So I’m giving you all a big hug and a handful of kisses and hope these will make your day better!
